Childrens safety in recreational, adventure and school playgrounds is now fully covered by British and European Standards in documents BS EN 1177.

Whilst that document is very long and comprehensive the key issue of safety in childrens playground surfaces is covered very clearly.

The risks associated with many surfaces are no longer acceptable and will not meet the new BS EN 1177 European Standard when it becomes law.

Sharp edges, daily maintenance and other risks have to be eliminated. The only commercial safety surface that will meet all the new codes and provide a cost effective and maintenance free environment is based on wet pour rubber technology.

Rubber mats and tile or tiles suffer from many problems including keeping them in place and fitting them around existing hardware. The design and specifications for non slip outdoor play areas for toddler, infant and elementary school children is well covered in the new standard.
